Durbanville Craft Market                                                                  Date:  04/04/2010

Easter Saturday—an approval market for Byzantine Mosaics.  I arrived at 7am and was assigned to the outside area of the Craft Markets.  Members of the Durbanville Craft Market approval committee inspected my stall and products.  At 11:50am I was provided with a slip “Congratulations…. You have been selected as a Member of our market”. This means that I have become a permanent member of the Durbanville Craft Market.—so you will find me there on the first Saturday of every month from June 2010.

This month’s market was a Easter Animal Charity Market.  Members of the Dassenberg Horse Rescue Centre had pony rides for children.  Their route was right past my stall and I enjoyed watching the joy on the children’s faces during their special ride—for some, it was their first interaction with a horse.  I took a bit of time away from my stall and got to feed the ponies some carrots—and I got a special nuzzle on my neck.  Ever been kissed by a horse—it is a wonderful experience!

TEARS had a charity stall, Sea Shepherd and the wonderful people that provide care dogs for people with disabilities.  Some of the dogs made an appearance at the market  during the course of the day—it was the first time I had seen an Irish Wolfhound in person—a wonderfully big but caring dog.

The guys from the Animal Rights Advocates had a cake stall—their carrot cake was just divine.  Their aim is to advocate animal rights in South Africa and globally.  The group was formed by a caring group of South African high school students in 2009.  Their current focus is on Kaukai  and asking them to change their chicken products from battery chickens to free range—this is one focus I am very interested in.  If you would like to support this worthwhile group go to the website www.animalrightsadvocates.webs.com

Natural Goods Market                                                                       Date:  07/03/2010

My first Market and boy what a day!  The Natural Goods Markets are located in Century City (refer to Related Links for further information on the market).

The weather person predicted 38 degrees  and they were right!  It was a very warm day in the big tent.  Unfortunately this affected everyone and the number of market visitors was not high.

On the bright side, I made a few friends with the other stall holders and talked to a few visitors (a very interesting man chatted to me about the history of the Byzantine era, before he had to go to ensure that his wife didn’t buy too much!)  Some visitors  who were very interested in mosaic classes , took my business care and I managed a few sales of mosaic products and my mosaic art.

I also had a wonderful purchasing experience there— a new handbag (beautifully made from a purple material) and a Bokashi Bin (a great item to recycle your organic waste).  For  more information on the Bokashi bin send an email to info@bokashi.co.za and tell them that Byzantine Mosaics sent you!

My next market is on 3 April 2010 at the Durbanville Craft Markets.  I would love to see you there!
